Interview with David Paul, author of Nocturnal

David Paul
Today, we have the author of a paranormal/horror vampire love novel, titled, Nocturnal. I hope you enjoy this amazing interview and share this page with your family and friends.

So Dave, why did you become a writer?

I've always had an interest in writing since junior high school. I've had two English professors in college tell me that I was one of the best writers that they have ever come across for a student. Somehow, writing took the back-burner for the longest time. I aborted a sci-fi novel that I had started in 2003 because I just lost interest. I guess the reason that I became a writer was because I was so dissatisfied with what was out there for books and movies. Everything out there seemed so formulaic and lame. I was also not happy with my place in life...I was bored. My thought was that I would try to write books that would get people back into the horror scene or even “revive” the horror scene.

Why do love writing paranormal book(s)?

Nocturnal
I've always loved the paranormal and the occult, even growing up. I've read numerous books on the subject of witchcraft, astrology, demonology, magic, ghosts, exorcisms, vampires, voodoo, black magic, and etc, so writing about it seemed the natural progression. It is a comfort zone for me, and it holds my interest.

If there was one book you wish you wrote, which would it be?

I would have to say Dante's Inferno. It is just a wild book filled with insanity...lol.

What is your greatest challenge as a writer?

Honestly, it would be finding the time to dedicate to writing. It is so hard to balance work, my relationship, and also writing and promoting.

In three words, why should people read your book?

I would say: Juicy, Original, and Unpredictable. If I had a fourth and a fifth word, I'd use: Badass and Controversial!

What gives you inspiration to write paranormal books?
Just being a huge fan of paranormal and horror genres for movies and books gave me the inspiration to write books of this nature. I used to terrorize my English teachers with creepy and grotesque stories since middle school. I've always loved the bizarre and the unknown...things that scare people...mysteries of the universe. So why not write about it?

If you had one wish what would it be?

Honestly, it would be to write full-time and to make my living from that. I enjoyed writing Nocturnal more than any other job or task in my life. It is a tedious thing, but nothing beats the feeling of seeing it all printed up in one big stack of paper. That is a very satisfying feeling that I have yet to find elsewhere in life in regards to work. If I could write on my laptop for eight hours a day, then I'd be in proverbial Heaven. If you make my location a cemetery, a church, or a beach, that would be even better.
Who's your favourite author?

I actually have two: Steven King and H.P. Lovecraft. I love their work.

Are you working on any further project(s)?

Yes, sir! I'm working on the sequels for Nocturnal, which will be a minimum of three books in total. There is a possible fourth book in this series that will depend on how the storyline progresses. I know what I want to do with the story, but I don't know how many books it will take to put a proper finish on the series.
What's your favourite quote?

“There is a fine line between clever and stupid.”---Nigel Tufnel (from the movie This is Spinal Tap.)

This quote is so true! Just think of all the ideas that may have come across as stupid that turned into huge successes. Conversely, think about all of the great ideas that somehow flopped in one way or another.

Tell your readers something special about you?

I'm just a normal guy that loves cars, guns, books, comics, and movies. The only thing special about me is that I have been blessed with a great woman, a wonderful family, and awesome friends. They have all given me nothing but support and love all of my life. That has made me a stronger person, and it has enriched my life.
